Rough (Chicago Underground #1) by: Skye Warren

I’m a cautionary tale. A statistic. A victim. A single teenage mother from the poor part of town. Most of the time I’m too busy working and struggling to care what people think. Survival doesn’t come easy.

I have a dark secret, a pressure valve, a rare moment just for myself. On these nights I visit a club. There I find men who give me what I need. Men who aren’t afraid to take what they want.

Men like Colin.

But he takes more than a few stolen hours. He demands more than my body. He wants my heart and soul–my happily ever after. I never thought I’d be Cinderella. I never thought a man that rough could be my prince.

So far this series is good and it does kind of end in a cliffhanger. But the good thing is the other book is already out so there is no wait.

Allie was raped by one of her friends when she was sixteen years old and ended up pregnant. Her dad was a truck driver and gone a lot of the time. He found out she was having a baby and kicked her out. She got a place to live and one of her best friends Shelly moved in the apartment building to help her out.

Shelly is an escort to make ends meet for her and occasionally to help out Allie. She also watches Allie’s little girl while she goes to work at a bakery. Allie works makes little pay but it does its job of providing for her and her daughter but barely.

Allie has never gotten over the rape. She goes to a club about once a month to find someone to have rough sex with her. It helps calm her down and satisfies her until it starts to build up again then she has to do the same thing again.

One night she goes to the club and sees this guy she thinks will be perfect for her fix. He looks brooding and rough. She gets him to leave the club and he takes her to a motel. But Allie gets a surprise. Where she is wanting rough sex to get out of her head for a while he takes things slow and shows her how sex should be.

She is starting to fall for him right then but she knows she can’t have that so she goes her separate ways. The next time she has the itch she goes to the club but Colin has already gotten in her head and she is starting to change her mind. Then this guy comes up to her and she tries to say no but he pushes and the bartender sees this and calls Colin.

When they get into the parking lot by his truck the guy starts to get rough with her. She says no but like she has already figured out with most guys no does not mean anything to them. The next thing she knows Colin has the guy off of her and the guy looks scared of Colin. He tells the guy to leave and he takes off.

Colin takes Allie home and sees the bruises on her. He wants her to promise that before they go any further that she will see him again. She agrees because he has gotten past her barriers and she has no choice because the old way of taking care of her fix has been broken. She tells him about her daughter and he already knows and doesn’t care.

Colin tells her he has to go and she asks him if they can see each other the next night and he agrees. They have a nice date, then he leaves again. After she goes to pick up her daughter she finds out she is getting sick and it gets worse. She takes her to the Dr. She runs into the guy she had met at the club and he had the crap beat out of him. He apologizes to her and goes on his way.

Later that night she starts to get sick and Colin comes over to help her out with her daughter. They get to talking and she finds out that he was the one who beat up that guy. She also finds out that his brother is in something like the mob. She does not like the fact that even though he owns a restaurant that he still does things for his brother because it could get him in trouble or bring trouble to her and her daughter. He leaves and she does not know what to do.

She goes on with her life and the baby’s father comes to her apartment he finds out they have a baby together and wants to see her but she says no. She is so shaken up that she does not know what to do. She is scared that he is going to try and worm his way into their lives.

Colin calls and wants her to come to his home. She goes and he knows something is wrong and she tells him about the baby’s father and he asks her if she needs money for a lawyer and she says yes. He agrees to help her and asks her to move in with him. She agrees.

Shelly has a visit from a new client and he whips her so badly but she did it for money to help Allie out for money for a lawyer. She takes the money but she had been putting off moving in with Colin, but while she was laying there she decides that it would be a good thing to do so she calls him. The next day he comes to get her.

When they go to her apartment to start packing her door lock has been broken into. He sends her upstairs to check it out but no one is there. They get packed up and get her moved. Things seem to be going okay. He takes her to a ballet to see his sister then to his brothers to talk to the lawyer. She lies to all of them  when she tells them that the baby’s father had not hurt her.

After they get home he grabs her and kisses her and they move things to the bedroom. She is really not in the mood but she gives him what he wants. She is trying so hard to get out of her head but he notices and stops because she wont tell him what’s wrong. She gets up and shuts herself into the bathroom letting him know not to come in. He grants her request and doesn’t follow her and when he choses to listen to her silent request is the first time since she had met him that she felt utterly alone.

I am so looking forward to the next book. I hope you all enjoyed the review and I hope you pick up this book and read it.
