When We Kiss
Ribbon Ridge, Book 5
By: Darcy Burke
Denver real estate mogul, Liam Archer, has always been a thrill-seeker, and the loss of his identical twin brother has only intensified his reckless behavior. Sky diving, heli-skiing, motorcycle riding…he’s tried everything once. Except falling in love. Liam doesn’t do relationships, but a no-strings fling with Aubrey Tallinger—the smart, gorgeous lawyer handling his brother’s estate—is totally his speed.
At first, hooking up with Liam whenever he’s in Ribbon Ridge is perfect; but Aubrey fears she could fall hard for the sexy daredevil, if he’d only stop refusing to acknowledge the demons he’s trying to outrun. To protect herself from heartbreak, Aubrey ends their affair. But this time, Liam isn’t leaving town and instead of seduction, he wants to be…friends.
The white-hot attraction between them still sizzles but Liam knows that winning Aubrey back won’t happen in his bed. He’ll have to convince her that he’s more than the careless, adrenaline junkie she believes him to be. Because when they kiss, Liam feels whole again… and he isn’t ready to give her up without a fight.
Wow, the first thing I will tell you is to have some tissues handy because you will cry at different parts of this book and they will not just be silent tears, they will be gut wrenching.
Liam is not one of the siblings that you will like right off the bat, or for most of the book as a matter of fact. He is cocky and so full of grief that he keeps everyone out. In this book we learn why he is the way he has been through the other books. It is so painful to read at times, because if you think of putting yourself in that same scenario I don’t know how I would cope. It is so painful to read and to follow him through his journey, but you can’t help but to root for him and Aubrey. They are a perfect match but like I said before, he keeps everyone at arm’s length.
Aubrey finds a way to break through his barrier. He doesn’t see it coming it just happens over time. She has slowly fallen in love with him, even though she knew it was the wrong thing to do since he said he would never move back or doesn’t want a series relationship. But, she is able to show him that what he has been searching for doing all of those crazy stunts that he could find with her.
Liam works though a lot of emotions even though he wants to do anything but, he just wants to push them in the deep recesses of his mind like he has been doing all of this time. It helps him to not break apart. He has yet to grieve for his brother, and everyone knows that he needs to do that.
When Aubrey finds out he is going to attempt a dangerous jump she knows it is time to give him what his brother has left him. He left letters for everyone else but for his twin he left a box. When she went to deliver good news to the family he was not there and was not picking up his phone. That was after their amazing day in the sky and the awful fight right after. She was worried about him, but she left the box in his room and left him a text to talk to his mother.
When he got home and saw that everyone was there well except Aubrey, he found out what they were celebrating and he made his exit to see what Aubrey left for him. When he opened it he knew right away that it was from his brother, he put the flash drive in the computer and when he saw his brother s face he slammed the computer shut. His dad came in and asked him was he ok and Liam finally starting letting go of some of the grief. He told his dad no, and began to tell him why. His dad was turning grey in the face at all that Liam was telling him. He couldn’t stand to be there anymore and told his dad they would talk later and left. He went to Aubrey’s and asked her to watch it with him. He couldn’t believe what all he brother said and did. He wanted to throttle him all over again.
Liam and Aubrey ended up making love and professing their love to each other. The next morning however, Liam told her that he did love her but he could not live here. Then he told her what he told his dad, and she told him that it was not that he couldn’t live here he just choose not to live here and come to terms with his grief. She told him to go and talk to his dad and they would talk later, but she didn’t see any reason to talk since she was not willing to move and neither was he.
That is all I am going to give you about this story, I want you to read so you can experience the guilt, grief, and happiness as you read.
Does Liam talk to his dad and come to terms with everything and decide to stay?
Does Aubrey move to Denver after all?
Those are questions you will find the answers to when you read this book.
