Anna was in an abusive relationship with a guy named Tony. He was a drunk and very abusive. There is some things about Tony that Anna has no idea about, but she will find out later. One night when she got home from work she just wanted a shower. Tony was supposed to be at work but she found him passed out drunk on the couch. She needed some light to clean up the mess he had made and when she did she woke up the beast. As she tried to get away from him he got her and punched her and made her fall in the shower. She got out and he wanted to play (which meant he wanted her to run from him so he could chase). She ran into the kitchen and he came at her. She grabbed a knife and when he came at her with his fist raised she held her knifed hand out and when she looked back up he was looking at her in shock with the knife handle sticking out from his crotch. He fell and she ran thinking that she had killed him.

She drove away and went to her sisters. As she was driving her car quit, but a little while later it started up again and she was able to make it to her sister’s house. Her sister knew that he was abusive but she could never get her to leave him. She was just glad that she finally did leave him. After a few days they drove back to her apartment and saw that the evidence of her stabbing him was gone, she grabbed some of her stuff and left.

After about a month her sister hinted that it was time to move on with her life. She signed up for classes, and got a gob as a legal assistant. Little did she know what kind of lawyer he was. He was a junky. But, she needed the pay check. On her first day of work no one was there to show her how to turn on the computer or transfer calls. One call was to make sure that the appointment for Congressman she didn’t know what to do and she told the assistant sure. Her boss about flipped out when he came in. The Congressman was very good-looking and gave her his card and told her to call him. They went out for a few weeks before Anna realized that she was being used. By then she had met her professor and had an eye for him. Something kept holding her back from having sex with the Congressman and she knew the reason why when the truth finally came out.

Corey asked Anna to go out with him that evening. He took her to Vegas and they gambled two hundred thousand dollars a piece. Lady luck was not with Anna that night. She was down to her last ten thousand dollar chip and put it in this big slot machine. When the three pyramids popped up and she was told she won a million dollars she was floored. That lead to her and Corey celebrating even more int he bedroom. The next day everything went to hell for Anna.

That is where I am going to stop and let you find out what happened to her. I didn’t know if I would like romantic thrillers, but I have to say I have really gotten into this series. I suggest you grab a copy and see for yourself.

I was given this book to read in place of an honest review.

“You live near here, right?”

“Go a block west and then up three more blocks. Tiny rental. Okay, maybe not tiny, and it’s about to get bigger. Did I tell you that Jamie’s moving out?”

She looked at him askance as they crossed the street. “No, you didn’t. Is that a good thing?”

“Yes. I prefer to live alone.”

She mock gasped and widened her eyes. “Me too.”

He grinned at her, enjoying her company so much. “Shocker.”

She laughed softly, the sound cascading over him like a cozy blanket. “Where’s he moving to?”

“Brooke’s old loft. He just managed to snag it right after she gave notice.”

“Damn.”

Luke stopped on the sidewalk. “What’s wrong?”

“She told me that she was moving and asked if I was interested in taking her loft. Stupidly, I said no.”

She was the person Jamie had mentioned. That sucked. She looked so disappointed.

Maybe he could ask Jamie not to take it. Which, of course, meant that Luke would still have a roommate.

She narrowed her eyes at him. “Don’t you dare talk to Jamie. It’s his fair and square. Anyway, my initial response was to pass, and sometimes your gut just knows what to do. I’m going to trust that.”

“Are you sure?”

She nodded vigorously. “Absolutely. Jamie deserves it—and you deserve to have your own place. I can see how much it means to you.”

She was quite simply the best woman he’d ever met. “Can I kiss you?”

She stared at him, her lips parting slightly. He heard the small but distinctive intake of her breath.

He leaned forward.

She jerked away but didn’t let go of his hand. “Ask me again when we get to my place. Sorry, I need to…process.”

He forced himself to take a deep breath. His pulse was working overtime, and points south of his waistband were getting ahead of themselves.

“So your parents seem nice.”

Now he knew she was the best woman. His mother ought to have scared her off. “My mom didn’t make you cringe with the waitress comment? You have a freaking master’s degree, for crying out loud.”

She laughed. “I’m used to that. You should see how some customers treat waitstaff. It’s disgusting.”

He hated that she had to put up with that. They turned the corner and headed back toward The Arch and Vine. “But she’s my mother.”

“And I’m sure she’s lovely. I told you a bit about my mother, right? She would’ve asked how many dates we’d gone on and whether we planned to go out again. And our answers would’ve just spurred more questions. It’s always an interrogation with her.”

“Yikes, sorry.”

They crossed the street again, and he was torn between walking faster to see if he’d get to kiss her and slowing to a crawl because he didn’t want the evening to end. Although, if he kissed her and things progressed…maybe the evening wouldn’t end at all.

Whoa there, pal. Settle.

They got to her door, and she turned toward him. “And here we are.” She looked up at him, and her eyes were pale and gorgeous in the lamplight.

“About that kiss…”

She slid her hands up his shirtfront and clasped the sides of his jaw. Coming up on her toes, she pressed her lips against his. Her touch raced through him like electricity—hot and blinding. He grasped her waist and pulled her close until her hips grazed his.

She pulled her lips from his but didn’t retreat. Her eyes opened, and the vulnerability in their depths stole his breath. “I haven’t done that in years. I don’t…” She shook her head.

He lifted his hands and cupped her face. “Thank you.” He kissed her again, softly moving his mouth over hers, wanting more but afraid to take anything she didn’t want to offer.

Her hands slipped down his neck and clutched at his collar. She pulled him closer and twined her hands around his nape. Then she angled her head and opened her mouth. That was the invitation he’d been waiting for. The fantasy he’d been dreaming of.

It is always hard when you try to start a relationship with someone who has been abused by what is supposed to be the love of their life. That is what Luke found out when he tried to start a relationship with Kelsey.

Kelsey was broken after her long-term ex abused her. She doesn’t know why she stayed as long as she did, but after the last time he abused her and she had him put in jail she knew it was time to let go. But, she never thought she would move on and fall in love again.

Kelsey gave Luke a run for his money and whiplash from the back and forth that she gave him, because he would do something that would remind her of her ex and she would pull back. But, he knew they had something special and he wanted to fight for it.  When his ex showed up and though they could continue where they left off if she got the job near-by, he learned what was different between Kelsey and Paige. He never loved Paige. But, later on when Kelsey uttered the exact same words that made him freeze and start to pull away from Paige only made him closer to Kelsey. Him and Kelsey were meant to be, that was the difference. But, when her ex shows up Kelsey takes a step back after Luke punches him. But, an accident shows both of them what they mean to each other.

This was an amazing book, and I was honored to get a copy to read in exchange for an honest review. I really hope you will take my advice and get your copy today. And I can not wait for the next book to come out.

What an emotional journey you will go on when you read this book. It is the last book with the Maguire siblings. I can’t wait to see who is next. I hope it is Levi. Would love to read about him.

my-thoughts

Wow, I knew it was going to be an emotional journey, but I didn’t expect all of that. If you have been reading this series this is one of the books I know you have been waiting on and let me tell you it does not disappoint. It will have you frustrated at times at Tessa, but Jake will calm you down just like he calms her in the book. I loved these two together and I hope that like the other books we get glimpses of them in the future. This was a very well written book and I can’t wait to read more of the series. I am not sure how many more are left and I know we are running out of single people in the town unless someone knew comes in, but now that I have read Jake’s story I am really looking forward to reading Levi’s.

Until Next Time: Happy Reading.

What I am reading Next.

This is the 8th book in this series and it is the last of the Maguire family. Jake has been a playboy throughout the rest of the books. I guess we are about to find out why.
